The good news was that I had made it through September to the time trial. It had been a busy month, starting with three days at Laguna Seca for a DE, then four days in Arizona for the PCA Escape and now finally off to Willow Springs, “The Fastest Road in the West.” The 911 ran great at Laguna Seca and I was looking forward to fast times at Big Willow. Rennsport/Quail Weekend
Fabulous, fantastic, fun. How else can you describe a weekend in Monterey with almost two-thousand Porsches, including several hundred of the most renowned examples ever made by our favorite manufacturer. The Rennsport/Quail weekend, as I refer to it, might have been sensory overload to the novice car fan, but to the thousands of Porschephiles present, it was one of the best experiences imaginable. There have been many articles written about Rennsport IV and a few about the Porsche Race Car Classic at the Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel Valley, near Monterey, so you probably already know the facts of the events. Therefore, I thought I would try to personalize the experience with observations from our small group of six Porsche fans, who had a wonderful drive up the coast, culminating in fine cars, fine dining and a lot of fun. The Last Lap
I find myself on the last lap. It’s too late to change tires or suspension settings but it looks like there’s just enough fuel left in the tank to complete the race. By the time you read this, I will have taken the checkered flag and begun my cool-down laps. Greg Phillips officially takes over as Club President at the December board meeting. I’d like to be the first to congratulate Greg and to thank him for all he does for the club. Read more

Video: EVO Magazine Reviews New 911
EVO Magazine’s Chris Harris was lucky enough to get to take the new 911 Carrera S out on some (quite crummy) California back roads. With it’s all new chasis, updated PDK, and electric steering, Chris didn’t have many complaints about the new, bigger (yet lighter) 911.

Video: New 911 Drops its Top
Porsche has just released photos and video of the 2012 911 Cabriolet. The drop-top mechanism has been redesigned to maintain the same silhouette as the hard-top and, in true Porsche fashion, be lighter than ever before.
The standard Cabrio’s 350HP, 3.4-liter will get the car to 60 in 4.4 seconds, while the S model will get you there in 4.1 seconds thanks to it’s 400HP 3.8-liter flat six.

Oktoberfest New Member Welcome and Volunteer Party
A new event has arisen from the ashes of the economy, the combination of the annual New Member Welcome and the Volunteer Party. This year the new event was scheduled in September to coincide with Club elections and to balance the year with other important social events, like the Installation Dinner and the Drivers Award Dinner. Our hard working volunteers were brought together with new members, allowing the new members to see the value of volunteering and meet the people who run the club. In addition, the six new candidates for election to the 2012 board were personally presented to the group. Read more
Team Dieter Does Laguna Seca
Laguna Seca is a special track and although I have been there to watch many events, I still needed to really drive it. Although technically I had driven a DE event there after the Historics in 1998, it had been my first track event. I had a great time, but don’t remember much about the track other than the Corkscrew was fun and turn 1 was intimidating. I have a lot more track experience now and have been looking to drive there again. So when they announced at the GGR/GPX Buttonwillow Club Race/TT that there was going to be an event at Laguna Seca, Steve Grosekemper and I started making plans to attend. We also started recruiting other drivers. Cathy Young was in along with Ralph Linares and Ethan Dahlkamp. Read more
